Expressions of Interest – GIA Sustainability Committee

The Greenlife Industry Australia Board continues to establish governance and strategic sub-committees to support and provide guidance for the operation of the organisation.

GIA is seeking expressions of interest from industry stakeholders with an interest in sustainability to sit on the Board sub-committee for the Sustainability portfolio. The committee, which will be comprised of two GIA Directors, GIA Staff and up to five industry stakeholders, will support the associations strategic imperative for ‘Sustainability’ aiming to improve the industry’s environmental credentials and manage risks.

Through this process, the GIA Board hopes to identify representatives who have experience implementing a sustainability strategy within horticulture or the greenlife supply chain as well as a technical capacity to support policy development.

The objectives of GIA’s sustainability strategy are built from GIA’s strategic plan and include developing an industry sustainability framework and completing a review of existing and/or developing new policy positions for sustainability priority areas. The Committee will also work to set ambitious waste reduction and emissions targets that will drive industry innovation and support the industry’s environmental credentials, while also undertaking surveillance of emerging issues and threats and communicating these to members and partners.

The sub-committee will provide strategic guidance on all activities under the Sustainability portfolio with its first role being a critical review of current policy.
